Our few days away were anything but uneventful. Kale had a tradeshow to attend in Atlanta, so I went along to meet a few of his clients and to spend a couple days in Gainesville, GA with his sister, Kandis, and her family---Jeff, Mason and Michael. Well, I don't know if any of you heard--but we had to share the city with a tornado! Downtown Atlanta was hit pretty hard on Friday night so we stayed in Gainesville the next day instead of making the 1 hour drive to the city like we had planned. The hotel where we planned to stay had tons of blown-out windows and people reported that there was luggage and furniture on the street below. The Georgia World Congress Center where the tradeshow was being held was hit pretty hard as well and lost a lot of it's roof. We were sure glad that we weren't there....but on Saturday (right as my nephew Mason was about to start his pirate birthday party) we had another tornado to worry about...and it was headed right in our direction. At the last minute, the kids were scooped up and we found shelter in neighbor's basement while we waited out the storm. Luckily, it passed without touching down near us, but it did cause a lot of damage to homes and two people died. Scary. Since the Congress Center was closed, Kale didn't have to work, so we spent 2 days at a chateau nearby---and that was relaxing and wonderful. We had a really great time--ate lots of good food--and got caught up on some much needed rest (but it's nice to be home).
